Faculty Stipend for Canvas Training & Transition

Please note: the due date is fast approaching, and the training sessions for this stipend have passed.  This opportunity is no longer available to those who have not already participated in both sessions.

Golden West College will be offering paid Canvas training to support our faculty in successfully transitioning from Blackboard to Canvas. To be eligible to receive the appropriate stipend, faculty must complete both training requirements and submit a completed Canvas course.

Eligibility

  • All full-time and part-time GWC faculty members.
  • Does not apply to management or non-teaching classified staff.

Stipend Requirements

  1. Attend Training Session 1* on or before March 27.
  2. Attend Training Session 2 on or before March 27.
  3. Submit a completed Canvas course (see below) on or before March 31.

* All faculty members who have successfully completed GWC’s 4-week Intro to Canvas course have already fulfilled the requirement of Training Session 1.

Training Components

  • Session 1: Essential Canvas Online Teaching Components.
  • Session 2: Accessibility, RSI & More
    • Accessibility; Regular Substantive Interaction & Regular Effective Contact (RSI/REC); Attendance Tracking and Last Day of Attendance; and Syllabus and Textbook Posting

Session 1 and 2: Face to Face Schedule

Faculty can attend both sessions on the same day or individually on separate days:

Faculty must register for Session 1 and Session 2 (below) (or for Session 2 only, if they hold a certificate from the Intro to Canvas 4-week course).

Session 1 and 2: Online Options

Session 1 Online Options:

  • Feb 27 to March 26 (“Introduction to Canvas” 4-week class)
    • Note: this course requires more than 3 hours of time investment. If you prefer to stick to a smaller time commitment, the face to face courses are available to you. But if you cannot attend on campus, this course will satisfy the requirements of Session 1.

Session 2 Online Options:

  • Feb 27 to March 3
  • March 6 to March 10
  • March 13 to March 17

Faculty must register for Session 1 and Session 2 (below) (or for Session 2 only, if they hold a certificate from the Intro to Canvas 4-week course).

Completed Canvas Course

Tier I – Online/Hybrid Course – $400

In addition to attending Training Sessions 1 and 2, the completed Canvas course must contain the following:

  • Regular Substantive Interaction/Regular Effective Contact requirements for online classes
  • Posted Syllabus and Textbook
  • ADA compliant course content

 

Tier II – Face-to-Face Course, with Canvas as Supplement – $250

In addition to attending Training Sessions 1 and 2, the completed Canvas course must contain the following:

  • Uploaded supplemental course material
  • Populated Modules
  • Posted Syllabus and textbook information
  • ADA compliant course content

Once the completed Canvas course is submitted, accessibility content will be surveyed and verified by a professional expert; all other content will be surveyed and verified by GWC’s Distance Education Advisory Committee members.
