Over the winter break, our Blackboard server was updated to Service Pack 10 (SP10).

Similar to the theme update in 2012, this update doesn’t change what you already know about working in Blackboard; however, it does provide some exciting additional features!

GWC Workshop – The Basics of Blackboard Learn – March 9, 2012

Now that you are teaching in Blackboard Learn, I’m sure you have some questions! With the hectic first few weeks of the semester behind us, we are offering a one-day workshop this friday, to cover the basics of our new system.  You have probably already received the email regarding this workshop, but I wanted to post it here on the blog, just in case!

9am – 10am: Adding Content
Building the Course Menu, and adding items/files/folders to Content Areas.

10am – 11am: Communication Tools
Email vs Messages, Discussions, and Chat.

11am – 12pm: Assignments and SafeAssign
Creating and grading Assignments and SafeAssignments.

12pm – 1pm: Lunch Break
Lunch will be provided by Staff Development.

1pm – 2pm: Tests
Creating Pools and Tests, adding Questions to Tests, and deploying Tests.

2pm – 3pm: Grade Center
Organization of the Grade Center, grading, and Calculated Columns.

3pm – 4pm: Q & A
An open Question & Answer session, to address any remaining questions, or topics not covered earlier in the day.

Webinar: Creating Content with Respondus

Respondus is a very useful program that simplifies the process of importing tests to Blackboard Learn.  We have a campus-wide license for Respondus, so you can download and use it for your course. (Please contact the Online Instruction Department for details.)

Respondus is offering a free webinar tomorrow, with helpful information on how to use the software:

  • Overview of Respondus 4.0
  • Using the Import Wizard to bring in questions from other sources; includes formatting tips for Word files

  • Using the Retrieval Tab to reuse and/or edit assessments already in your LMS
